Edmund was the son of John Beauchamp, one of about 70 financiers of the Mayflower, and Alice (Freeman) Beauchamp.
He was a member of the Mercer's Guild of London and had worked under his uncle John Doggett in the trade.
He migrated to Maryland in about 1663 and became the first clerk and keeper of the records and proceedings of Somerset County in 1666 and held that position until close to his death. It has been stated that his handwritten records are some of the neatest of early American records.
On June 11, 1668 he married the daughter of Quaker Ambrose Dixon, Sarah Dixon at Annemessex, Somerset Co., MD. They had, at least nine children.
