Misc. Notes
James "Nanticoke" Cannon was a planter. He was called "Nanticoke" because of the property he lived near and owned on Nanticoke Island and the Nanticoke River. Another James Cannon was a contemporary called "Island" James Cannon.
The first mention in the new world of "Nanticoke" James is 4 August 1683 when he signed as a witness to the will of John Taylor.
In 1712, "Nanticoke died leaving widow and 9 children including son James. An inventory of his will includes "old books" and "spectacles" thus indicating that he was a literate man. In addition to other properties, he owned 112 acres of forest on Nanticoke called "Ickford".
