Doris Imogene “Mammy” Cox Frederick, 88, died on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Golden Living Center. Born on September 26, 1925, in Smithville, she was a daughter of the late James F. “Jim” and Belma Brasfield Cox.
Mrs. Frederick was a graduate of Smithville High School, Class of 1942. After 29 ½ years of service, she retired from the US Postal Service.
Mrs. Frederick was a member of Pearce Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Determined, out-going, and spontaneous, her family, especially her grandchildren, was most important to her. Having a big heart, she was passionate about helping other people. Mrs. Frederick enjoyed driving, teaching her grandchildren how to drive, going to the Smithville Cafe, keeping Maxey Cemetery in great shape, listening to any music she could dance to, playing sports with her grandchildren, and watching the Atlanta Braves.
She is survived by daughter, Rita F. Sargent (Steve), Smithville; son, Rickie Frederick (Betty), Smithville; sister, Faye Simmons, Amory; grandchildren, April McAfee (Richard), Will Frederick (Mitzi), Elise Brock (Spencer), and Neal Sargent; great-grandchildren, Daniel and Anna McAfee, Andrew and Cade Brock; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel James “Sam” Frederick; an infant son, Larry Neil Frederick; and a sister, Sibyl Thompson.
