Age 85. Peacefully Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Silver Cross Hospital following a courageous battle with diabetes with his family by his side.
Born in Chicago and a lifelong Chicago area resident. A Korean War U.S. Army veteran serving overseas in Berlin Germany.
Retired as an independent distributor of Fuller Brush Company after over 50 years of service. Formerly an industrial professional photographer for many years following his years in the service. A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Preceded by his Mary "Sue" (nee Sanders) Vandervelde (2006); and one sister, Marilyn Overzet.
Survived by one son, Scott J. Vandervelde of Naperville; one daughter, Holli Anzalone of Naperville; one grandchild, Lee Anzalone; two brothers, Bill and George Vandervelde; two sisters Grace Wolbert and Theresa Reitsma. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Mary Sue Vandervelde, age 67, of Naperville, formerly of Elmhurst and Berwyn, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2006 at home.
She was born in Amory, MS on April 24, 1939. She was an Accounting Clerk with The Hub Group Transportation Company.
Mary Sue was the wife of John R. Vandervelde; mother of Holly Sue (Dan) Anzalone and Scott Vandervelde; grandmother of Lee Michael Anzalone; sister of Hansel Quitman Sanders; aunt of many nieces and nephews; daughter of the late George Harvey Sanders and the late Mary Jane Sanders, nee Maxey.
