The correct spelling of the MAXEY family name is M-A-X-E-Y.
However, through a clerical error, the letter 'c' was mistaken for 'e' and the misspelling with the 'c' instead of the 'e' was carried forward in some of the Maxey family lines rather than correct the record. Folks have since continued and spread the misspelling backwards and forwards into the Edward Maxey line. One can find Maxey family documents with the family name spelled both ways in the same document.
