Misc. Notes
Edythe Marie Maxey Wylie completed her life’s journey on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 93 years old.

She was the daughter of the late George Wesley and Sylla (Jordan) Maxey of Smithville, Miss. Her husband was Johnie Franklin Wylie for 49 years until he passed away 30 years ago, January 14, 1985, and he remained her only love.

She was born on January 20, 1921 in Smithville, Mississippi. In 1950 she moved to Douglas, Georgia and in 1959 she made Toomsboro, Georgia her home for the next 55 years. In June 2010 she joined her granddaughter, Edythe Brantley (Ricky) Smith at her home in China Grove, N.C. She lived at Liberty Commons Rehabilitation and Nursing Center near China Grove for the last 3 ½ years.

Mrs. Edythe Wylie was schooled in Smithville, Miss. She was a longstanding member of Toomsboro Baptist Church. Mrs. Wylie had a passion for fishing, gardening, sewing, cooking, baking bread and quilting. One of her most noted works was a presidential quilt with the faces of each president from George Washington to Bill Clinton which was displayed at the Historical Museum in Aberdeen, Miss. It was photographed and then signed by President Jimmy Carter. She was an avid card player who won several games of Spite & Malice, as recent as 4 months ago, against her grandson, Johnie Brantley. She loved her community and always enjoyed working the elections at the local voting precinct. Mr. and Mrs. Wylie owned and operated Wylie’s Bait and Tackle in Toomsboro from 1974-1984. She also worked several years at JP Stevens in Milledgeville, Ga.

Loving, compassionate, grateful, hard-working, talented, determined, humorous, joyful and faithful… Mrs. Edythe Wylie was a remarkable lady who prayed victories for many people. Her neighbors, friends and family meant everything to her. The family is thankful for everyone’s love and support through the years including the nurses, CNAs, extended staff of Liberty Commons and her sweet roommate and friend, Kathryn Black of Landis, N.C. Room 208 will hold a special place in our hearts forever.

She was preceded in death by her son Jimmy Wylie and her daughters Sylla Jane Solomon of Dublin, Ga. and Jacqueline Lisette Brantley of Savannah, Ga. and her goddaughter Millie (John) Giles of Macon, Ga. She was also preceded in death by all 19 siblings consisting of 12 brothers and 7 sisters.

(Rhonda) Wylie of Bremen, Ga. Also, she is survived by 11 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren (add one more great-great grandson on the way) and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and their extended families.
