He was always in demand on constructions sites and built many houses in and around Smithville. He was also a cattle and pig farmer. He had built a model pig barn for his farm, way ahead of the times.

Maudine or "Aunt Deanie" as all us nieces and nephews called her, was the second of nine children and a typical stay-at-home mom of the era. She cooked, kept house, gardened and canned, and tended to the children and grandchildren. Always sweet and quiet spoken.
