Mary Edna Tabbert, 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory after a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 26, 1915, in Century, Fla., to Allen Dulaney Givhan and Edna Patricia Jernigan Givhan. She married Frederick V. Tabbert on Oct. 4, 1947, in Mobile, Ala. She earned a registered nurse degree from the Mobile Infirmary. She was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy Nursing Corps. She lived in Mobile, Ala., Potstown, Pa., Fort Jackson, S.C., Fort Benning, Ga., Munich, Germany, and the Panama Canal Zone before moving to Amory 37 years ago. She was a homemaker, a Boy Scout leader and a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Administrative Board, the Heritage Committee and the United Methodist Women. She loved her church and her family.
Survivors include a son, Frederick D. Tabbert of Memphis; three daughters, Marcia B. Archer and her husband, James, and Karen Marie Cox and her husband, John, all of Amory, and Nedra E. Chauvin and her husband, Andy, of Trussville, Ala.; a sister, Evelyn G. Tennant of Pensacola, Fla.; her grandchildren, Heather M. Goza of Amory, Leigh Anne Erikson of Clarksville, Tenn., Joshua D. Tabbert of Phil Campbell, Ala., John Issac Cox of Amory, and Chandler Chauvin and Kelsey Chauvin, both of Trussville, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick V. Tabbert; her parents; two brothers, Allen D. Givhan and Edgar Givhan; a sister, Mattie G. Edwards.
Pallbearers will be John Issac Cox, Robert Goza, Chris Erikson, Rubel Adams, Mike Hathcock and Andy Love.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Friendship Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church in Amory.
