William Owen served as Captain in the War of 1812 under the command of General Andrew Jackson.

He died at Ft. Strother, St. Clair County, Alabama, that was built for defense against the Indians. The fort was built by Gen. Andrew Jackson and occupied by him and his men during the Creek Campaign, November 03, 1813.
