A.Z. Aven, 87, of Yantis died Friday, April 7, 2006, at his residence.

Mr. Aven was born April 26, 1918, in Weiland to Francis Leser and Sue Emily Slater Aven.

Mr. Aven was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the League Street Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

Surviving are his wife of Yantis; two sons, Travis Aven of Arbala and Gary Aven of Yantis; two daughters, Elaine Roberson of Abilene and Sonja Gambrel of Yantis; grandchildren, Roy Roberson, Lee Roberson, Kristy Smith, Teena Roberson, Eric Gambrell, Lynette Fountain, Crockett Gambrel, Jason Long, Lisa Hanna, Lonnie Aven, Nichole Aven, Erin Aven, Anthony Aven and Frank Aven; and 12 great-granchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Aven held a bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and two master's degrees from the University of Texas at Tyler. She was a retired teacher, a homemaker, and a member of League Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Z. Aven, in 2006.

Survivors include daughters, Elaine Roberson, Abilene, and Sonja Gambrel, Yantis; sons, Travis Aven, Arbala, and Gary Aven, Yantis; brother, William E. Chamness, Yantis; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
