On 9 Jul 1685, John, his brother William and 7 others, all living in the Neversinks area of New Jersey, received permission to purchase lands from the Indians at Manisquan in Monmouth County.

John lived in Poplar, a small town near Shrewsbury. He was a Juryman in 1702, County Road Commissioner in 1705. Both John and his wife Mercy are buried in the Friends Cemetery, Shrewsbury, NJ.
