Emanual, an orphan by age three, immigrated to Newport, Rhode Island as a child.
Admitted as a Freeman of Newport, RI on 1 May 1653. He and others were ordered to repair all arms brought to them by the Captain of the Newport Train band on 13 May 1667. While he was part of the Rhode Island Monmouth Association he contributed towards the purchase of land from the Indians in Monmouth, NJ but never moved there. He gave his lands to sons Edward who settled at Manasquan, John who settled at Poplar and William who settled at Stark River.
