"When Thomas was 18 years old he went to Penryn, California with his sister Mary Susan and Joseph L. Goolsby. They first went to New York, took a ship to Panama, walked across the Panama Isthmus and then took a ship to California. He returned to Mississippi about 14 years later.
He served as trustee in two of Andrew J. Goolsby's deeds of trust. He and his brother William E. were executors of his Father's will and guardians of Benjamins' four minor children by his second wife. The executors filed their final account of the estate in April 1884.
William E. and Thomas L. were the legal guardians for Georgia Anice, Safronia, Benjamin McConell, and Henry Avent. Annual accounts where filed with the court on 13 Feb 1880, 6 Oct 1880, Oct 1881 & 13 Oct 1882. 3 Dec 1883 in the Oxford, Mississippi paper notification was given to out-of-town heirs to settle the estate."
