Payne Avent Sneed Oxford Payne Avent Sneed, 91, owner of Sneed's Ace Hardware for 53 years, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Miss. in Oxford.
Sneed served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was a member of the Oxford-University United Methodist Church. His service to the church included serving as past chairperson of the Board of Trustees and the Administrative Board. He was a member of the Oxford Lions Club where he received the Edward Dalstrom Distinguished Service Award and he was a recipient of the Boy Scouts of America James E. West Fellow Award.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Mathis Sneed of Oxford; daughter, Susan Harrison of Dothan, Ala.; son, Harry Sneed and wife, Vicki of Oxford; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
