Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Avent McBane of Presbyterian Home of Hawfields, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, after illness of several years.
She was he wife of the late Dwight Leeman McBane and daughter of Edward and Maggie Hamlet Avent, both deceased.
Born in Chatham County, she was educated in Chatham County Schools and Trinity College (now Duke University). She taught school at Lowes Grove in Durham. She was owner and operator of McBanes Store in Mebane for over 50 years where she started the first remnant shop in this area. She was the oldest member of Mebane Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Bill (Nancy) Buchanan of Greensboro, Mrs. Ralph (Shirley) Williams of Graham, Mrs. John K. (Bobbie) Clark of West Palm Beach, Fla., Mrs. Chuck (Kaye) Madden of Boones Mill, Va.; one son, George (Audrey) McBane of Mebane; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Doug Avent of Burlington and Bill Avent of Lincolnton.
She was preceded in death by sister, Margaret Diggs; brothers, Raymond Avent, Clyde Avent, Al Avent, Edward Avent and Howard Avent.
