Mrs. Effie Mae Stanley Avent, of Coventry House, Siler City died Monday, December 3, 2012 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.

She was born in Siler City on May 26, 1916, graduated from Siler City High School and lived in Siler City for 90 years.

She retired after 30 years of service with the State of North Carolina Department of Transportation as a Senior Driver Licenses Examiner. She was awarded the Order of The Long Leaf Pine by the State of North Carolina. Effie was a past president of the Business and Professional Women's Club, a member of the Chatham Hospital Auxiliary, the Senior Ladies Bridge Club and a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Don B. Avent and his wife, Joyce M.; daughter-in-law, Carol Avent; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde B. Avent and son, Stanley G. Avent.
