John is named in his father's, Joseph Burt, Will dated June 20, 1788. John received negro and plantation at wife's death. He was also named executor of Joseph's estate along with friends Benjamin Doles, Jesse Read, and William Burt

The name of John Bert appears on a muster roll of the 33rd Regiment, 2nd class Georgia Militia on 9 Nov 1814, and John Burt also appeared in an 1810 Census in Capt. Watson's Military District, Baldwin County, Georgia.

According to Putnam County, Georgia deed indexes, on 8 Nov 1813 a transaction was recorded between John Burt and Stephen Marshall, his brother in law, for 157 acres of land. A large number of deeds involving Richard, James and other Burts were also found there, some transferring land located originally in Baldwin County, Georgia.

Received from his father, Joseph Burt, one negro girl, Dilie, to him and the heirs of his body forever.
John was named as one of the executors of his last will and testament.

In 1800 Census John Burt is shown as living in Halifax County, North Carolina, on page 290.

Probabaly migrated to Washington Ferry, Autauga County in ca. 1820 along with his brother Joseph and brother-in-law John Mathews.

He was a Farmer, but also appears to be professionally and/or personally interest in law and litigation. Several books on the topic were listed among his estate and several court cases were mentioned during the settlement of his estate. Two were judgments in his favor in Montgomery County.
