Thelma was born on March 27, 1937 in Ralston, Oklahoma, the daughter of Walter Edward and Edith McCray Avants, and passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 15, 2011 at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.
She moved with her family to Cleveland, Oklahoma where she was educated.
Thelma married Raymond Sissom in Ralston, on November 4, 1953. They moved to Compton, California only to move back to Oklahoma in 1956. They lived in several cities throughout Oklahoma, retiring to Kremlin in 1972.
Thelma worked as a CMA at Sunnyside Center. Also worked at Clean Clothes Rental and Great Lakes Carbon. She also owned and operated a cafe' in Hunter. Thelma was a member of Kremlin Community United Methodist Church where she was the Chair of the Church Administrative Board until ill health. She was also a member of United Methodist Women, and Roadrunners Car Club where, over the years, held all offices.
Thelma is survived by her husband, Raymond of the residence; sons, Floyd and wife Betty Sissom of Kremlin, Oklahoma, Raymond and Maressa Sissom of Enid; daughter, Kathy Sissom of Kremlin; seven grandchildren, twenty-one-great-grandchildren; three brothers; five sisters.

Raymond attended school in Cleveland, Oklahoma where he was active in 4-H. Immediately after school.
Raymond married Thelma L. Avants in Ralston on November 4, 1953 She preceded him in passing on June 15, 2011. They moved to Compton, California only to move back to Oklahoma in 1956. They lived in several cities throughout Oklahoma, retiring to Kremlin in 1972. They were members of Kremlin Community United Methodist Church. Raymond held many jobs through the years; service station attendant, police officer, roustabout but his fabvorite was farm laborer. He worked many years for farmers in the Kremlin area. He thoroughly enjoyed working the fields and planting crops and after retiring continued working his garden and planting his crops.
Raymond served in the Oklahoma National Guard. Survivors include sons, Floyd and wife Betty Sissom of Kremlin, Raymond and wife Maressa Sissom of Enid; daughter, Kathy Sissom of Kremlin; seven grandchildren, twenty-two-great-grandchildren, and sister Carlene Ross of Tishomingo. Raymond was preceded in passing by his wife, Thelma, his parents and three brothers.
