CATHERINE CAVETT McSPADDEN, born in Macon, Mississippi in 1912, was the daughter of the late Josh Stevens and Evelyn Snowden Cavett.
She was a graduate of Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, Mississippi, and taught math in Memphis before she and her husband spent sixteen years in Sao Paulo, Brazil with Anderson Clayton Cotton Company.
After their return to Memphis, they were active communicants of Calvary Episcopal Church where she enjoyed being a member of St. Margaret's Guild; she also enjoyed working with the Woman's Exchange. She appreciated all forms of art, especially gardening, and was a member of the Chickasaw Garden Club. Her family appreciated and benefited from her talents and interests in art.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Avant McSpadden, and by a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Evelyn and William Deupree. She is survived by a sister, Mildred Cavett Pearson, and her husband, Wilbur, of Macon, Mississippi. Also surviving are her nephews, William Williams Deupree, Jr., of Memphis; Guy Cavett Taff of Jackson, Mississippi; John Snowden Taff of San Antonio, Texas; nieces, Nancy Deupree Parker of Houston, Texas; Cynthia Rhymes Parish of Amelia Island, Florida; and Dora Taff McDaniel of Atlanta, Georgia. Also she was "Aunt Kitty" to 22 great and great-great-nieces and nephews. One of these, Will Deupree, lives in Memphis and faithfully and joyfully cared for her for many years.
