On October 13, 1943, William was born to William Odell Gilcrease and Helen Avent Gilcrease in Roswell, New Mexico. He married the love of his life, Shelby Perkins on February 23, 1968, in Roswell, New Mexico.
William was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He was an Army Veteran who proudly served his country. William loved to work with wood, hunt and fish. He enjoyed the outdoors and growing his own vegetables and fruits. William loved and enjoyed his grandchildren and life in general. His family will carry fond memories of him and he will be greatly missed by all.
Those left to eternally treasure and cherish William’s memory are his loving wife, Shelby; children: Rhonda Martinez and husband, Joaquin, and daughter, Jacki; Ann Garlinger and husband, Eric, and daughter, Brooklyn; and brothers: Calvin Gilcrease, wife and family, and Jerry Gilcrease, wife and family.
Preceding William in death were his parents: William Odell Gilcrease and Helen Gilcrease; and sister, Benny Gilcrease.

Shelby Perkins Gilcrease was born in Green Up County, Kentucky, on December 27, 1939, to Shelby Gene Perkins and Bonnie Carr Perkins.
She spent most of her early years living in Ohio.
In 1957, Shelby graduated from Wheelersburg High School. In the early 60s, Shelby joined the United States Marine Corps, where she served her country proudly as a Communications Specialist at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. After her Honorable Discharge from the Marine Corps, she moved with a friend to Roswell, New Mexico, where she met and fell in love with William C. Gilcrease. Bill and Shelby were married in a small ceremony on February 23, 1968. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2018, a few weeks before William passed away in March of that year.
During her time on this earth, Shelby loved to bowl. She and Bill spent many nights at the bowling alley with friends and family in high spirited competition. Multiple times, Shelby advanced with her team to National level bowling matches. In the early years of their marriage, they also participated in square dancing with the Roadrunners Square Dancing group.
Many times, Bill and Shelby opened their hearts and home to children in multiple states as foster parents. When time allowed, she enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with friends and family. Every now and then, she enjoyed a spin or two on a slot machine. Shelby was crafty and blessed to be able to knit and crochet, which was a hobby and talent she practiced up until her passing. She will be greatly missed.
Shelby was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and two sisters.
Those left to treasure and cherish Shelby’s memory are her children: Rhonda Martinez and husband Joaquin and their daughter Jacki of Belen New Mexico, Ann Garlinger and husband Eric and their daughter Brooklyn of Roswell, New Mexico. She also leaves behind four sisters, two brothers, and many many loving nieces and nephews.
