Charles Arnold Allcorn, age 89, of Early and formerly of Talpa left his earthly house Monday afternoon in the Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
He was born August 28, 1921 in Crews, Texas the son of the late Arthur Shepherd and Della Louise Hale Allcorn. He grew up in the Crews community and graduated from Crews High School where he played on the basketball team.
He married Laura Joine Herring on December 28, 1940 in Talpa. They moved to the Herring Home place and began ranching and farming. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Following the service, he returned to Talpa where he lived until moving to Early in 1985. He also was an oil field pumper for many years working for W. W. West Co. He also was a former partner with R. G. Brookshier in ranching and a backhoe/grave service, and a former partner and board member of Colonial Funeral Home of Brady, Texas.
He was very active in the Talpa United Methodist Church, the Talpa Lions Club, and other community activities. He and Joine owned a tailor shop in Talpa for a short time.
He was a member of the Coleman Betterment Council and served as a director on the Coleman Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He was instrumental in getting the Coleman, Ballinger, and Winters Chambers of Commerce meeting together once a year at the Pecan Springs Ranch for a cook-out. He later served on the Ballinger Chamber of Commerce Board and was chosen as Rural Citizen of the Year. He was involved in getting Live Oak trees planted along the main street in Ballinger. He was active in the Ballinger Lions Club and on the Coleman County and Runnels County Historical Societies where he helped to get several historical markers placed.
He served on the Board of Directors of Coleman Bank for several years and was very active in the American Cancer Society for over 35 years
After moving to Early, he became involved in the Early Lions Club and the Early Chamber of Commerce serving on the Board of Directors. He was awarded Citizen of the Year at the annual banquet. He also volunteered as a mentor for New Horizons Children's Ranch where he loved to take the kids to parades and pull their float. He will be remembered for his hamburger trailer that he volunteered and cooked for many events including the Early Athletic Association and the Little League. He was awarded the Supporter of the Year at the Early Athletic Banquet. He was a member of the Early First United Methodist Church and had been attending Emanuel Chapel United Methodist Church in Brownwood where his son, Benny is pastor.
He was truly a person willing to help others and give of his time. He had a true servants heart choosing to work behind the scenes rather than being a leader and receiving recognition. His joy came from giving of himself to others.
He is survived by 2 Sons and a daughter in law, Charles and Jane Allcorn of Winters and Benny M. Allcorn of Early 2 Granddaughters and their husbands, Allison andn Danny Randolph of Sundown and Ashley and Wes Glass of Sterling City a grandson – Julio "Trey" Allcorn Reyes and wife Kim of Fort Worth 5 Great Grandchildren – Reagan, Rylee, and Reece Randolph and Peighton and James Carter Glass; his Caregiver, Mae Culver of Brownwood His special "adopted" Children – Joel and Suzanne Johnson of Early and Gary and Tammy Bowen of Early
His special "adopted" grandchildren – Jennifer Rabenaldt and family of San Antonio, Derek Johnson and family of Leander, And Rabon and Blanton Bowen
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joine Allcorn, and a special companion, Doris Rollins.
Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Randolph, Wes Glass, Trey Reyes, Derek Johnson, Rabon and Blanton Bowen. Honorary pallbearers will be Sandy Neal, Earl Gee, Bert Humble, James Thompson, Lloyd Hebert, Johney Griffin, Rex Bomar and Joe Allcorn.
