Mr. Avent was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Canyon, Texas, to the late Lavert and Peggy Avent. He graduated from Canyon High School in 1943. He
enlisted in the Navy.
He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1945 and then received his master's degree from West Texas State University in Canyon. He married Betty Ruth Byrd on Aug. 24, 1947, in Memphis, Texas.
For many years he was a teacher, coach and was principal at Travis
Junior High School until he retired. In 1990 they moved to Lake
Texhoma because of his love for fishing. He was diagnosed with cancer
in May of this year.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lavert Avent Jr. of Stinnett
and Don Avent of Claude.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; a son, Price Avent and wife, Leesa,
of Fort Worth; a daughter, Lucy Avent of Denver; a brother, George
Avent and wife, Barbara, of Dalhart, Texas; three sisters, Mary Jo
Robinson and husband, John, of Gruver, Texas, Juanita Allred and
husband, Buck, of Wildorado, Texas, and Martha Wilkins and husband, Bill, of New Braunfels, Texas; a granddaughter, Amber Martin and husband, Steve, of Denver; and a great-grandson, Kody Riddell of Denver.
