Avent was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in WWII.
He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church and was retired from MLGW.
Mr. Avent is survived by his wife, Delsie Leathers Avent, four children, Barry Avent (Pam), Donna Mariechild (Ed Kimball), Lisa McLean (Chris), and Kevin Avent (Diane), ten grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Polk Avent.
