March 16, 1936 - Oct. 12, 2016 EL RENO James Louis Avant, 80, passed away suddenly, yet peacefully, on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was always outgoing, never meeting a stranger. He met his sudden diagnosis head-on with grace and peace. Acceptance had proved to be a quality throughout his lifetime.

Jim was born March 16, 1936, to Thomas H and Elizabeth Avant. He attended Sacred Heart School and enjoyed sharing memories of his "career" in competitive sports. He attended and graduated from St. Edward University in Austin, TX in 1961.

Jim was an investment advisor for over thirty years and retired from Wells Fargo Advisors in 2012.

After a blind date, he met and married the love of his life, Peggy Gail Helm, in 1960. Together, they raised six boys in Rosenberg, TX, which proved to be their greatest accomplishment.

Jim cherished his family and friends above all else. He was devoted to his faith and relied on prayer for strength and peace throughout his life's journey. He was a sports enthusiast, enjoyed football, especially the OU Sooners, and Thunder basketball. Jim loved to dance with his wife, Peg, piddle in his garden and share the "fruits of his labor" with friends, family and lifelong clients.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Joann Avant Ross; and his two sons, Kelly Avant and Shawn Avant. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Peggy; his sons, Tom (Margie) Avant, Darby (Amy) Avant, Tim Avant, and Pat (Keri) Avant; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and dear friend, Walter "Wegie" Ross, and the Ross family.
