Donell was the son of Harry Lee LaRue, Sr. and Sarah Mittie (Avants) LaRue.
He graduated from McAlester High School in 1957 and was employed in Oklahoma and California before enlisting in the US Air Force in 1959.
On April 28, 1962, in Miami, Oklahoma, he married Carolyn Watson. At the time of his honorable discharge in November, 1962, he held the rank of Airman Second Class.
Then, he began an extensive aviation career which included Lockheed, Aero Commander, Braniff International, and Southwest Airlines. Donell retired from Southwest Airlines, after more than 25 years, in April, 2010.
In retirement, he enjoyed being a "gentleman farmer" in Parker, Texas, and sharing the produce from his large garden with friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn; daughter and husband Lori and Rob Moore; son and wife Kevin and Emily LaRue; four grandchildren Kristin, Ivy, T, and Cathleen; and several nieces and nephews.
Donell was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Harry Lee LaRue, Jr. and his sister Lucille LaRue Crum.
