Terry Wayne Avants, 74, of Mt. Vernon, died at 10:26 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023, at Rivers Crossing of Alton.
He was born June 14, 1949, in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, a son of the late Eldon Lee and Dorothy Evelyn (King) Avants.
Mr. Avants is survived by five children, Melissa Boydstun, Terri Ann Prose, Cheryl Norman, Ezekial Ryan Avants Cathlina and Josh Berry; eighteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren; six siblings, Karla Terry, Susan Williams, Leland Avants, Benjamin Barylske, Stanley Barylske and Anna Painter; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.
Mr. Avants was an over the road truck driver and had worked for Yellow Transit and J.B. Hunt. The United States Army veteran proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.
