Misc. Notes
Steve Avent, the author of the definitive website Avent Family Association, believes he has found pretty solid proof that Col. Thomas Avent was born in the village of Wembury, Devonshire and was baptized in St. Werburgh's Church there in 1670.

First off, a few years ago Steve worked with a lady who lived in Devon, who was an amateur genealogist specializing in Devon genealogy, and she helped Steve find a baptism record for a Thomas Avent, who was baptized at St. Werburgh's Church in 1670. One can see the record on Col. Thomas' page in Steve’s sit,
HERE!. The baptism record showed that he was the son of John Avent and Julian (Julie Ann) Ewens.

The problem was, Steve could noy prove that he was our Thomas Avent. Steve had his DNA tested by
Livingdna (a UK-based company specializing in British DNA) several years ago, and recently he was contacted by someone who was matched up to his DNA relative on Livingdna.

She said she lived in Vancouver, Canada, which was strange because Steve was not aware of having any Canadian relatives or ancestors. He contacted her back and asked where she was from, and she replied that she was born in Devon and her family had been there for a long time.  Steve checked our common DNA relatives and one of them was a lady that he knew is his 2nd cousin, on his Avent side, so that confirmed that the Vancouver lady was related to Steve through the Avents.  He then messaged her again and asked her if she knew of any Avents in her family tree, and she immediately responded that she had done a lot of genealogy research on her family, and one of her direct ancestors was a man named John Avent, who was married to a woman named Suzan Luckrofte, both of them living in Devon in the late 1500's. A little online research showed that they were very likely the grandparents of the John Avent who married Julian Ewens, and therefore the great-grandparents of our Thomas Avent.

Steve and his wife visited Wembury and St. Werburgh's Church, and it's a pretty, little village and St. Werburgh's is a beautiful old church on Devon's rocky coast. There are supposedly many old Avent graves there, though the stones are now long gone. They did find a few more modern Avent graves.
