Mrs. Gladys Slade Burns passed from this life into the arms of her Heavenly Father on October 4, 2018. She was born June 1, 1933 to John Emmitt Slade and Mildred Conn Slade in Sicily Island, LA.
Gladys loved her family and her church and she filled her life with music. Her love of country and the privilege to vote was something she did not take lightly. Always watching and listening, she was fascinated with politics. She was quick to help if needed and her work ethic was beyond reproach. She taught us about God, she made us strong and she showed us how to love and for those things we are forever grateful.
Survivors include (redacted to protect privacy) her daughter, Elizabeth Wallace (Buddy), sons, Glenn Avants (Eva), David Avants (Tiffany), grandchildren, Todd Wallis, Jason Avants, Nathan Avants, Chastity Milton, Candace McDowell, Seth Avants, Maddie Ginn, Zach Avants, 11 great grandchildren and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Dixie Jean Starnes and Gertha Lea White, the father of her children, Ernest Avants, husband, Paul Burns, grandson, Shane Wallis and great granddaughter, Kelsey Avants. In the later years of her life she met Lawrence Kyzar who became her constant companion and the love of her life until he was called home.

Ernest Avants, 73, was born to Eston Avants and Bertha Williamson.
He was a Korean War Army veteran. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister Betsy Ann Crawford; and his great-granddaughter, Kelsey Avants.
Survivors are his wife, Martha Avants; his daughter, Elizabeth Wallace of Bogue Chitto; his sons, David Avants and Glenn Avants, both of Bogue Chitto; one sister, Mary Nell Merritt of Baker, La.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Note: Ernest Avants, a reputed
Klansman, was sentenced to life in prison without parole in June for his part in the 1966 civil rights-era murder of black Mississippi sharecropper
