Frank Harper Avent passed away peacefully with his family by his side Thursday, April 7, 2016, after an illness.
Frank was born July 16, 1940 in Florence, SC and was a lifelong resident.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean, daughters and sons-in-law Celeste and Peter Lindeman, Angela Lynch, Mary and Jonathan Holland, and adored grandchildren McGahan, Catherine, Jack, Claire, Bryce, Henry, Frank and William.
He was pre-deceased by his parents Mary and A.R. Avent, his brothers George and Fred, and a son.
Frank graduated from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He was the general manager of Pepsi Cola Bottling Company, LLC, formerly Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Florence, where he worked forty-two years. The company was his passion, and he considered all who worked there his extended family.
Frank served on numerous corporate, community, and philanthropic boards including Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Florence, Carolina Canners, Inc., Siebels Bruce, Miller Communications, Boys and Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee, United Way, YMCA, Salvation Army, Francis Marion University Foundation, and Coker College.
He was a faithful member of Central United Methodist Church. His faith, family, workplace, and community were his life’s devotion.
And, he was honored with many awards for his dedicated community service including
Order of the Palmetto, United Way Ashpy Lowrimore Community Service Award, Florence Chamber Business Person of the Year, Boys and Girls Clubs Champion of Youth and Board Member of the Year for South Carolina, Honorary Doctorate from
Francis Marion University, and Rotary
4 Way Test Award.
