Douglas Eugene "Doug" McNiece Sr., 80, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at his home. He was born Sept. 2, 1927, in Belmont to Garland and Essie Timmons McNiece.

He served in the U.S. Army for 10 years and was a Korean War veteran. He worked as fleet superintendent for Pepsi-Cola Company in Atlanta for many years, retiring as safety coordinator. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lindale, where he was a deacon and a member of the senior choir.

Survivors include one son, Douglas E. McNiece Jr. (Evie) of Rome, Ga.; two grandsons, Brian McNiece of Augusta, Ga., and Will McNiece of Rome, Ga.; three stepdaughters, Dawn Dodd of Fulton, Karen Allen of Tupelo and Beth Erwin of Birmingham; one stepson, Mike Deaton of Fulton; two sisters, Bernell Long of Rome, Ga., and Marsha Smith of Snead, Ala.; one brother, G.A. McNiece of Silver Creek, Ga.; seven stepgrandchildren, nine stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his son, Betty Hardin McNiece; his wife, Willie Yarber Deaton McNiece; and a sister, Dot Camp.
