Daniel Whitehead lived in Hempstead and Newton, Long Island, NY. He was a proprietor in Hemstead in 1647, and Patentee in Smithstown in 1650. He was a Major in the Militia in 1650. He was imprisoned by the Dutch in New Amsterdam (New York City) in 1652, but soon released. In 1653 he was an early Patentee in Huntington. Between 1653 and about 1663 he purchased lands in Oyster Bay, Smithtown, Huntington and Lloyd's Neck from the Indians. He was Patentee in Newtown and was Overseer of the town, Surveyor and Magistrate. His will was dated 10 Nov 1668, but there is no record of it being probated.
