Curtis Cowan died on March 24, 2013 at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his first wife Violet Elizabeth Craig and by his second wife Lilly Frances Hood and a grandson Ronald Lee Cowan. He is survived by his daughter Norma Violet Holladay and her husband Roy and his son William Curtis Cowan, Jr. and his wife Betty. Mr. Cowan had eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
He worked at Firestone in Memphis for 27 years and then served in the Ministry of the Worldwide Church of God and was a member of the United Church of God. He was highly respected and much loved and will be deeply missed.
Curtis Cowan won the World's Championship Duck Calling Contest in Stuttgart, Arkansas , in 1952. He had made many custom made duck calls that are now considered collectors items.
Lily Frances’ birth certificate had her name as Rebecca Mae and it was not until ‘Pooch’ was 65 years of age that she became aware of this. She legally changed her name to what she had been called since she was a child, Lillie Frances.
