James Maxey was the former co-owner of M&H Tire Company; president of Farmers Gin Company; owner and operator of Maxey Equipment Company; and a farmer and landowner.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was an honorary colonel on the staff of the late Mississippi Gov. Cliff Finch.
He was a member of the Kudzu Investment Club; a Master Mason in the Joseph Warren Lodge; and a member of the Union County Scottish Rite Association. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Albany for 40 years and a current member of the Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Potts Camp.
