Misc. Notes
David Brasfield was born in 1735, in Wake, Caroline, Virginia and was the son of George Brasfield.  He was shown in the 1790 census as living in Hillsborough District, Wake County, N.C.  David Brassfield proved a deed from James Brassfield to James Jones, September Court, 1777, Wake County, N.C. (Minute Book 1777-1784, p 30) [Brasfield-Brassfield Genealogies, p 12].

He and Millington Blalock, George Rochell and John Griffis took oath of Allegiance to the State, September Court, 1777.  (Ibid, p 31)  The Wake County Court Minutes show David Brasfield to have done jury service many times between 1777 and 1783.  The deed of David Brassfield to Richard Ship was proved by oath of John Baptist Shaw (see Shaw Excursus XS - 1)  June 1779, Wake County Court.  (Minute Book 1777-1784 p 102)

Among the Comtroller's Office vouchers at the N.C. Historical Comission Archives is to be found Voucher #94 which shows that David Brassfield sold pork to the state of N.C. in Wake County, December 30, 1780.  Jesse Wall and Natn. Jones signed the reverse side of the certificate.

Vocher #2707 shows that David Brassfield on June 1783 exhibited his claim to the State and was allowed 13 pounds 10 shilling specie.  On the reverse side of this certificate was the notation "David Brasfield to Ferrill."  For the sum of 50 shillings for every 100 acres granted, David Brasfield was granted 640 acres in Wake County on the waters of Leek Creek, adjoining lands of Thomas Foundayande, Charles Copland, to Robert Bleven's line, 11 April 1780, by Richard Caswell, Governor.  (N.C. State Land Office, Book 31, p 351, File #302.)

He was bondsman on marriage bond for Caty Brassfield and Benjamin Ward, Wake County, N.C. December 3, 1787.  It is likely that Caty was his sister.

Bill of sale from Elisha Shamwell to Joseph Brasfield was proved by oath of David Brasfield, September. 1792, Wake County Court.  (Minute Book 1789-1794, p 237)  Entered 17 November 1802, Wake County "Received from the Sec. of State two returns in the name of D. Brasfield for lands in Wake County Court.  #303 and #302, the 17th November 1801.  (Signed) Geo. Brasfield."  (This is #5 in the N.C. State Land Office.)

David Brassfield was bondsman on marriage bond of Hannah Major and Joseph Brassfield (August 19, 1785, Wake County, N.C.) and it is assumed that David was Joseph's father.
