First, Eliza married John Nelson MAXCY, Sr. on March 27, 1845 in Itawamba County, MS. There are five known children from this marriage.

Second, Eliza married Robert L. Collier on August 26, 1858 in Itawamba County, MS. There are two known children from this second marriage.

There was a long, protracted court battle regarding inheritance of property and money following the death of John Nelson MAXCY, SR. The court battles really heated up after the death of Robert L. Collier because Virgil's half-brother, Thomas, was living on land with their mother that originally belonged to John Nelson MAXCY, Senior. Virgil MAXCY and his siblings sued their mother in court.

Virgil was a litigious minded man, and was quick to take matters to court on ANY issue. However, he was a kind man who was loved by many, and especially beloved by his children and grandchildren.
